Abiola Ogunbiyi is a screenwriter and actress based in London, U.K.

She received a BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre from ArtsEd London, and has worked for over a decade on stage and screen; her stage credits include the West End productions of Mamma Mia! and The Book of Mormon, and the world premiere of Girls by BAFTA-nominated writer Theresa Ikoko.

On screen, Abiola played Maria in seasons 2 & 3 of Jamestown (Sky/Carnival Films), starred in the film adaption of Matt Haig’s A Boy Called Christmas (Sky Cinema/Netflix), and in the Channel 5 miniseries Deadline. Whilst acting, Abiola began writing and producing short-form comedy content, including a a pastiche of Beyoncé’s 7/11 music video, and an award-winning comedy short, Sexellence which screened at venues including Shoreditch House and Budapest’s Puskin Mozi.

As a screenwriter, Abiola was a finalist in the 2021/22 Netflix Screenwriters' Fellowship. In 2023, she was one of 9 writers selected for ITV’s Comedy Writers Initiative; this led to her first professional screenwriting credit, writing additional material for the ITV sitcom Piglets.

Abiola is currently developing a feature film with EbonyLife & Green Door Pictures for Netflix, and a sci-fi short film for Jam Tomorrow/Lux Aeterna. Her drama series The Heir was recently selected for the TorinoFilmLab SeriesLab 2024 program.

Abiola has written a number of articles for leading U.K. casting directory Spotlight, and from 2019 - 2021 ran a platform and workshops promoting well-being within creative professions.

Alongside writing, Abiola remains a passionate musician and dancer, speaks at and moderates panel focused on empowerment in the creative sector, and has proudly joined the members of her generation running half marathons of their own volition.
